The Jacket and Women's Emancipation

The evolution of the jacket played a crucial role in the emancipation of women in the 20th century, replacing shawls and corsets to offer greater freedom of movement. During World War II, it became an essential garment for women working in traditionally male roles while men were at the front. After the war, couturiers reinterpreted the jacket to combine modernity with femininity.
In 1951, Achille Maramotti founded Max Mara, blending industrial production with high-quality tailoring. His goal was to create real clothes for real women, foreseeing that they would become professionals and that the jacket would be their perfect ally.
In the 1980s and 1990s, power dressing with structured jackets and oversized shoulder pads became a symbol of strength and ambition.
Today, women in power are a reality. They have fought to prove their worth, realizing that perfection doesn’t exist and that titles, earnings,and physical appearance do not define success—being true to oneself does.
